The Battle Run Fire District is proud to serve our community as a volunteer fire and EMS organization. For generations, our department has relied on dedicated volunteers who leave their homes, families, and jobs at a moment’s notice to respond when someone in our community needs help.
Years ago, many of our volunteers worked in or near the village. When an emergency occurred, they could leave work and quickly respond to the station. Today, many of our members work farther away from the community, and many employers no longer allow employees to leave their jobs when an emergency call comes in.
At the same time, the demand for our services continues to grow.

It is estimated to be $70 for the year per $100,000 property value.

The goal is to provide our community with the fastest, most effective response possible, regardless of the time of day.

These hours were selected because they represent the time period when the district has the greatest difficulty getting enough volunteers to the station quickly.
Having personnel already at the station means that when a call comes in, we can begin responding immediately rather than waiting for volunteers who may be miles away to reach the station.

This is particularly important for medical emergencies. When someone is experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, minutes matter. Getting trained personnel to a patient quickly can provide critical care sooner and allow additional responding volunteers to arrive while care is already underway.

Since 2020, the fire and EMS industry has experienced unprecedented increases in the cost of equipment and supplies. Fire trucks, ambulances, protective equipment, medical supplies, and other essential items have become substantially more expensive, with costs in many cases doubling.
A fire engine that cost about $589,000 in 2020 runs close to $1.1 million in 2025.
A new ambulance currently costs between $250,000 and $500,000+, which represents a massive 40% to 60% increase compared to 2020, when prices typically ranged from $150,000 to $300,000.
Delivery commonly takes two to four years, and some orders are quoted at up to four and a half years — far longer than the roughly 18-month timeline departments used to expect.
